Twis 15

This was us making the first tower.

This was our second tower.

This week we did the marshmallow challenge again. We did it at the beginning of the school year and  I guess David wants us to see how we have changed by using this project. we had our old group that we had for the first marshmallow challenge. once we were started to build our tower we couldn't speak only mouth words, act things out, and give each other notes. We started with drawing the shape we wanted, it was two cube on top each other and a four-sided pyramid on top. We put to much tape and the whole thing collapsed and was only 3cm tall. David let us build it again this time with out measuring, it fell but was much taller than the first one we did and that time we could talk to each other.

My team was Team Whole Wheat
I learned that working in groups is hard but can be good. We were communicating well even though we couldn't talk. Yet our tower still fell each time. our structures looked and seemed like the would stay up but they didn't.  I learned that a lot of tape will not make the tower stay at all. My group skills still have grown ,because im now much more comfortable working in a group.

If we were to seal the tank with out having plants inside the all the insects would die from suffocation. If there were no plant the would not use photosynthesis to make there own food and they would not waste the oxygen the insects need to breath. There would also be too much carbon dioxide, because the insects would be producing co2 with out anything taking it in.

TWIS #12

Something I learned  about abiotic and biotic. These are fancy science words ,abiotic means non-living biotic means living. They have vary simple meanings .I still struggled with them because I always thing they mean more than they do. Once we wrote and said it a few times in class I finally started to understand and make that connection in my head.

I learned how to feed our spider.David brought us small flys to feed. The flys are genetically engineered so now the fly still have wings but the wings are to small to fly. This is good because if they could fly they would fiy away and we wouldn't be able to feed them to our spiders. The spiders can be over feed so David sprinkled a little in the tank.they also don't have to be feed every day.
